FLAT TRACK AMERICAN FLAT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 9 / JUNE 29, 2019 ALLEN COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS / LIMA, OH P80 iii My Own Race: 23 JEFFREY CARVER 2ND AFT TWINS "I felt like I was in a war zone," said Carver. "Jared could get off the turns good. We've both got Ohlins suspension. He had it set up well. It was coming off the corner a little bit better. I could get in three better, but he could get off better than me. It's just different riding styles. Different people like different things. We made some good improvements since the beginning of the year, to get to where we are now. I'm happy to be up on the podium and challenge Jared like that and dice it out that hard. My bike was overheating a little bit because the radiator got filled up with dirt, but I don't think it hurt me at all. We were playing chess. I would go in and try to block him. He would roll just on the outside of me and damn near clip my elbow. On the next lap, I would run it in there a little bit harder and he would square me back off. He's just a very smart motorcycle racer. He's a very smart individual. It just came down to a mental game between me and him." 17 HENRY WILES 3RD AFT TWINS "As much as I am a little disappointed with third this year because I was so close, it was a lot better than last year's third. I was able to close on those guys," said Wiles. "It was another positive for us. We just need to keep putting in the work and keep putting in our best. I thought we were going to be a little closer than that for the win tonight. We had a pretty good bike. I didn't do as well as I wanted in the semi. I didn't get the start I wanted in the main. I think I was like back in seventh. It was tough to find a hole. I figured out that I could close on those guys, even when they weren't pass- ing each other. Even when Jeffrey didn't pass Jared and do the high low stuff, I could close on those guys. I knew I had the speed to win. It's tough to string those laps together where you are three tenths faster. This track is always a phenomenal track. I know there have been talks about maybe not racing here. With the racing that goes on here, I cannot imagine, for the fans' sake, not having the Lima Half Mile on the schedule." 192 BRANDON PRICE 4TH AFT TWINS "It was a good day, but the restart kind of messed me up a little bit," said Price. "I felt better earlier in the day when it was a full cushion. It brushed off and was a little skittery up there. People like Carver would scare you a little bit. They would be on the bottom and then go straight up the track. I almost had my front wheel taken off a couple times and had to slam on the brakes. I was about the same distance away from Jared, but once he got out front, it was just the way it was. It was my best ride of the year…so far." 37 BRONSON BAUMAN 5TH AFT TWINS "I want to call it a bad day, but it wasn't too ter- rible compared to where I was last year," said Bauman. "With the win last week, I had higher expectations on myself. I wasn't too comfortable on the bike and with the track. It came around pretty good. I couldn't be happier with it. I was just hitting the cushion. I wasn't riding all the way up next to the hay bales like some people were. It was harder than most. It seemed to be working for me. I would just skid it off and hit the cushion then grab a handful of gas and try to get the thing turned. I had to pass a few people. I think I was running seventh or eighth. I got a horrible restart and dropped back a few positions. I clawed my way up to fifth."
