Cody Webb Talks Painkillers
and Addiction
F
ormer EnduroCross Cham-
pion and FIM SuperEnduro
World Champion Cody Webb
recently had surgery to repair his
knee. A few days after the sur-
gery Webb took to social media
to confront a very serious topic:
painkillers and addiction.
"I just want to address it. It's
something that needs to be tak-
en care of," said Webb. "The fact
that I basically was taking them
almost like Skittles just to relieve
the pain. They started making
me feel wacky and I wasn't feel-
ing like myself. I basically quit
cold turkey and I felt awful. Your
body seriously craves them. I
never thought I had an addictive
personality, but next thing you
know, I had the sweats, I had the
chills, I had a terrible headache.
It was scary to see how quickly…
in less than one week, my body
was almost addicted to that feel-
ing from the painkillers. I can see
now how a lot of people have a
hard time getting over that mental
barrier and could go down that
deep road of addiction.
"You can be the strongest-
willed person ever and your
body's in pain it just keeps crav-
ing for more [painkillers]. I just
want to put the word out there
and let people know this is a
serious thing.
"I just hope that people don't
fall down that road because it's
really easy to become part of it
and we've seen a lot of moto-
cross athletes go down that road
before. It's something that needs
to be addressed. People need to
be more aware."
