Bou Comes From Behind at TrialGP
of Belgium
T
he 2019 FIM Trial World
Championship rolled on,
with round four of the series,
the TrialGP of Belgium, taking
place Comblain au Pont. Repsol
Honda's Toni Bou was victorious
yet again, though it wasn't a domi-
nant win this time… Bou scored
33 points on the complicated
trial, barely besting Gas Gas rider
Jeroni Fajardo for the overall win.
Adam Raga of the TRRS Factory
team rounded out the podium
with a 72, a single point over
Bou's Repsol Honda teammate
Takahisa Fujinami. Jaime Busto
rounded out the top-five.
After the first lap, Fajardo actually
held the lead, scoring 18 compared
to Bou's 21. But on the second lap,
Bou rebounded with an 11, enough
to regain the lead from his Gas Gas
rival. Even if it wasn't a dominant
performance, Bou kept his win
streak alive. He remains unbeaten
so far this season in his quest for
his 13th World Championship title.
"Today was a very tough race,"
said Bou. "It was very easy to fail
but very difficult to recover. On
the first lap we had Fajardo ahead
who had a great trial, but on the
second I was able to come back
and put up with the pressure well.
I was able to take the win in the
final section in front of the specta-
tors, which was very nice.
"Looking ahead to the cham-
pionship, today has been a very
important day to take things one
step further."
The sections proved to be in-
credibly difficult, with huge rocks
in a quarry and on steep, unfor-
giving hillsides. The extremely
tough obstacles were compound-
ed by dry and dusty conditions
under a scorching sun.
Bou's win puts him at 100
points in the championship—a
perfect score thus far. Raga sits
second at 81 points with Fajardo
taking a step forward into third
in the championship at 67 points
while Fujinami is only one point
behind in fourth. CN
