K
ailub Russell (FMF/KTM) held off
a last-second pass attempt by Tely
Energy Racing KTM's Steward
Baylor to win the Snowshoe GNCC, the
eighth round of the 2019 Amsoil Grand
National Cross-Country Series.
The win was Russell's fifth of the
season, and it extended his lead in the
championship to 48 points over Rockstar
Energy Husqvarna's Thad Duvall, who
was forced to pull out of the race on lap
four with a punctured radiator.
Duvall has been Russell's biggest
antagonist so far in the series, but with
his absence (Duvall's bike stopped in the
woods midway into the race), Baylor gave
Russell all he could handle on the final
lap of the race on arguably the toughest
racecourse of the season.
At one point, Baylor held the lead and
tried to break away, but Russell was able
to catch and pass the rider from South
Carolina. Baylor tried to make another
pass for the lead on the final lap up Power
Point Hill but was blocked by a lapper, and
Russell crossed the finish line with 1.5 sec-
onds to spare over Baylor to claim the win.
