VOLUME 56 ISSUE 25 JUNE 25, 2019 P53 K awasaki introduced the 2020 KX250 last week, and it features a number of changes, mostly to the engine to give it more power on top and higher revs. Most notable is a different bore and stroke configura- tion, and a new valve actua- tion system. Bore has been increased from 77mm to 78mm and stroke decreased from 53.6mm to 52.2mm. The Kawasaki larger bore allows for larger exhaust and intake valves for a higher revving engine, and what Kawasaki says translates into more top-end power. A new piston doesn't hurt, either. The new KX250 uses a new finger-follower valve actuation system, which was introduced to the all-new KX450 last year. This design also contributes to a higher-revving engine. Other notable engine chang- es include a shorter intake funnel, revised airbox, larger throttle body and a shorter exhaust system design. Chassis-wise, the KX250 gets an updated 48mm KYB fork and KYB shock, a new rear suspension link, and stiffer springs, front and rear. The frame has some revisions, as well, including new lower front engine mounts. Brakes have been beefed up, as well. MSRP is $7799. CN
