The Bardahl Evan Bros.
Yamaha WorldSSP riders,
Randy Krummenacher
and Federico Caricasulo,
already win prizes for com-
plicated names for Anglo-
phone ears to process, but
they are this year's consis-
tent class acts all around.
After the usual thrilling
and hotly contested WorldSSP
race up front, with some old pro-
tagonists re-joining the fun, the
final fight was between Krummen-
acher and Caricasulo.
Fight they did, elbows out from
Krummenacher to try and stop
Caricasulo from passing. Contact
was made more than once in the
final few corners. It was so po-
tentially internecine that eventual
third-placed rider Lucas Mahias
(Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) got
to within 0.161 seconds of the win
himself.
Krummenacher, now a four-
time race winner and three-time
second-place finisher in 2019,
was the final victor, 0.084 sec-
onds up on local man Caricasulo.
"I came here to Misano to
win, and we did that after an
incredible battle with Federico,"
said Krummenacher. "We really
pushed each other to the maxi-
mum, especially on the last lap,
so thanks to him for an enjoyable
race. It wasn't an easy win, that's
for sure, but I'm happy with the
result today."
Caricasulo, also never off
the podium this year, was taken
aback a little by Krummenacher's
aggression and possibly sur-
prised the race stewards were not
involved.
Lucas Mahias has had disap-
pointment this year, but after
some tiny tech and setup chang-
es to his bike, he came to Misano
with fewer big straights to lose out
on to the fastest Yamahas. The
2017 champion duly took pole
and then third place, for his first
Kawasaki podium.
Jules Cluzel (GMT) was fourth,
and the second official Kawasaki
rider, Hikari Okubo, recovered
from a horrible Saturday to an-
other top-five finish.
In the points, it is 160 for Krum-
menacher, 138 for Caricasulo,
107 for Cluzel, 70 for Okubo, and
66 for Mahias.
