JUNE 28, 1989
Doug Chandler celebrated Father's Day on the top step of the podium
after winning the AMA Superbike round at New Hampshire International
Speedway… Nicky and Tommy Hayden went 1-3 in the 600cc
Supersport race… It was a wet and muddy one at the Budds Creek AMA
125/250cc National Championship MX, but Kevin Windham didn't seem
to mind, nor did Tallon Vohland. Windham topped the 250cc class and
Vohland the 125cc… Rich King won the Mineralwells Half Mile in West
Virginia.
Wayne Rainey was pictured in action on the cover of Cycle News 30
years ago. We interviewed the soon-to-be Road Race World Champion…
We had coverage of the World Championship 500cc MX from Hollister
Hills, California. Ron Lechien won both motos with Eric Geboers taking
second… Jamie James won the AMA Superbike National at Loudon, and
John Kocinski won the Castrol 250cc Grand Prix… Kevin Schwantz
won the 500cc World Championship
Road Race in Yugoslavia… Terry
Cunningham won the Idaho City
Two-Day ISDE Qualifier; it was his
first qualifier victory in six years.
