Freeman Sweeps Greece World Enduro G reat Britain's Brad Freeman was the big winner in the fourth round of the FIM Enduro World Championship in Greece, June 15-16. Despite injuring his shoulder over the weekend, the Beta rider took the EnduroGP/ overall win both hot and dusty days to stretch out his champi- onship lead in EnduroGP over fellow Brit and Beta rider Steve Holcombe, who has been deal- ing with an energy-draining viral infection ever since round one of the series earlier in the year. Freeman (E1) edged out Hol- combe (E3) for Saturday's win in EnduroGP (overall), with Sherco's Matteo Cavallo (E1) taking a close third overall. Honda rider Thomas Oldrati (E1) was fourth overall and Giacomo Redondi (Husqvarna) was fifth overall but the top E2 rider for the day. On Sunday, Freeman (E1) again took overall honors, but this time ahead of Oldrati (E1) and Cavallo (E1). Daniel McCanney (TM) was the top E3-class rider in fourth overall, and Honda rider Chris- tophe Charlier was the top E2 rider in fifth overall. Redondi was gunning for another E2 class win but crashed in injured his ribs. He lost 14 minutes and finished 19th overall on the day. Holcombe (E3) slipped to sev- enth overall but still took second to McCanney in the E3 class. In the premier EnduroGP (overall) standings, Freeman leads with 149 points, followed by Holcombe with 130 and McCan- ney with 110 points. Cavallo and Oldrati round out the top five. The 2018 WORCS Champion, Redondi, is 10th overall in Endu- roGP but is fourth in the E2 class behind leader Alex Salvini (Hon- da), runner-up Loic Larrieu (TM) and third place Charlier. (Salvini injured his should on day one and retired early. The Italian suited up for day two and gutted out a fifth in class.) With 154 points, Holcombe still heads the Enduro 3 category over McCanney (142) and an- other Beta rider Anthony Geslin (122). Freeman remains perfect in the E1 division. Cavallo is second in class followed by Davide Guar- neri (Honda) and Oldrati. "I'm destroyed!" Freeman said after Sunday's ride. "I was off to a good start and pulled a comfort- able gap after two laps, but I was careless in the enduro test, and I fell hard. I lost a lot of time and hurt myself a lot, especially my shoulder! But I am still very satis- fied with this victory; it's helped improve my gap in the EnduroGP standings. Now I just have to hope that my shoulder injury isn't too bad and that I will be able to be 100% next weekend!"
