MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 3 / JUNE 1, 2019 THUNDER VALLEY RACEWAY / LAKEWOOD, CALIFORNIA P60 CUTTING THE TRACK? There was a bit of controversy after the second 250MX moto in Colorado, which started when Adam Cianciarulo went off the track while chasing—pretty closely—leader Justin Cooper, then re-entered the track right next to Cooper as the Yamaha racer went by him. It flustered Cooper, who not long afterward went down while leading, and Cooper was indignant after the race, feeling as if Cianciarulo should've been docked, and that he was robbed of his first-ever AMA National victory. "Right now, I think they're favoring AC on the decision," Cooper said, hours after the racing was over. "All the points we made I felt like it wasn't getting anywhere. Kind of frustrat- ing. They just kind of countered and kind of backed AC's deci- sion up. I felt like I had the overall no matter what happened in the moto. I pretty much had it in my head that he was going to be docked. I'm so speechless right now. It's going to be a long two weeks. The fire is lit under me. It's a big deal. It would have put me at least in the points lead. Never had the red plate. Also my first win, it would have been nice to go 1-1 today, but things didn't really work out in our favor. We're going to appeal it because it seemed like it was one-sided. They weren't taking any of our comments. We feel it's still in our favor. We're going to draw it out." But what Cooper couldn't have seen was how close Cianciarulo was to him when Cianciarulo careened off the track, how the Briefly... can't complain about today at all. I feel like I was riding really good. The first moto was awesome, and even the second one I got a way better start actually out of the gate. I tried to stay up there as long as possible. Eli [Tomac] was really fast in the end. I should have switched up some lines maybe some, but I didn't really have anything for him in the end anymore. I tried not to let him get too far away. I did what I could. The track changed a lot from the first to the second moto actually. I really liked it. It was a good day, though." Roczen leads Tomac by two points with nine rounds (18 motos) left to run. Third in points, Os- borne is already more than one full moto out of the points lead, 26 behind Roczen. (Below) Tomac, Webb and Musquin all squandered good starts in the first moto. (Right) Eli Tomac (1) caught and passed Roczen in the second moto but it didn't matter. Roczen still got the overall victory for the second time this season.
