FLAT TRACK AMERICAN FLAT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 6/MAY 25, 2019 ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUNDS/SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS P88 ing/Monster Energy, Yamaha YZ450F) and Sipes both got up off the ground to finish 11th and 12th, respectively. A big bonus for Janisch was the fact that AFT Pro Singles points leader Dalton Gauthier (D&D Cycles/Gobert Smash, Husqvarna FS 450) made a huge mistake in his heat race. "Well it wasn't the night I was hoping for," said Gauthier. "I got sent to the penalty line in my heat race and ended up rolling the line from there, which ended up giv- ing me a 10-second penalty. After working my way up to fourth in a five-lap race, the penalty dropped me to last. Super bummed about the deal, but it was my mistake, and I take full ownership of it." Janisch now holds a 15-point lead, one-third of the way through the year. Gauthier, Rush and Bromley, however, are all still in contention. The Steve Nace AMA All-Star Series filled out the program fea- turing the All-Star Singles class along with six Amateur classes. There were over 150 entries for this portion of the program. JD Beach (Estenson Rac- ing/Monster Energy, Yamaha YZ450F) was able to pocket over $2000 by winning the All-Star Singles main, but he first had to get by his teammate Dallas Daniels. Daniels was able to get the holeshot, but Beach wasted little time taking over and pulled out to a commanding lead. Dan- iels (who will celebrate his 16th birthday, and then make his AFT debut at the Lima Half-Mile at the end of June) held on to second despite a late-race challenge iii My Own Race: 94 RYAN WELLS 9TH SINGLES TT Previous-round winner Ryan Wells (Estenson Yamaha Racing) was hoping to carry his winning momentum into Springfield, but that did not happen. In the main, he got caught up in a log jam for position going into the right-hander after the jump on the first lap and went down. Wells got back on the bike, put his head down, and fought his way from the back of the pack to 11th. "A pretty disappointing night in Springfield," he said. "I had a pretty good day going, qualified fourth, and got third in my heat and semi. I got off to a decent start in the main event from the outside, and I went into the right-hander in about third or fourth, but I got run into when another rider went down. I almost saved it, and then I ran into another guy and crashed. It's a bummer to have a good day going and end up on the ground." 1 DAN BROMLEY 3RD SINGLES TT The defending Singles champ, Dan Bromley, was hoping to get a much-needed win at Springfield, but he was happy to finish out the night on the podium in third. "Throughout the day we were chasing the bike a bit, making it stiffer every time I went out," Bromley said. "I felt good in the main event, but I think I was just over- riding to get to the front towards the end and by doing that I made little mistakes that cost me in catching the leaders. Overall, I'm happy to come away with another podium and gain some points on the leader." 52 SHAYNA TEXTER DNQ SINGLES TT It was a disappointing night for Shayna Texter (Red Bull KTM) who showed good speed in practice and qualifying. She fell in the semi-finals and failed to make the cut. "It was a bit of a bummer to end the day like that, but it gives us the confidence to continue to grow and work hard on these TTs to score points and to go after the championship here in the future," she said. "We made a bunch of improvements since the last round, and I've been putting in a lot of work during the week riding mo- tocross and training with Aldon Baker, just trying to get stronger both physically and mentally. It really showed yesterday that we have a lot of potential to grow and to get better on these TTs. I'm super excited to be making progress and definitely looking forward to some of my stronger tracks coming up in the season."
