M
emorial Day Weekend in
the dirt track world cen-
ters on the Illinois State
Fairgrounds and its illustrious mile
oval but rain interrupted the show
by forcing the postponement of
Sunday's Mile event. All was not
lost, however, as the AFT Singles
TT portion of the weekend's rac-
ing managed to play out Saturday
evening. Luckily, the Springfield
Mile (I) has already been resched-
uled for Labor Day weekend,
August 31.
Not only did the TT run its
course on Saturday at the facili-
ties Fairgrounds Arena TT track,
so did the Steve Nace AMA All-
Star Series race.
Jesse Janisch (Roof Systems
of Dallas, TX/Yamaha, Yamaha
YZ450F) continues to prove
himself as the man to beat on
the twisty TT tracks around the
country. There have been three TT
races this year, and Janisch has
now won all three.
The last rider to beat Janisch
on a TT was Ryan Sipes, and he
looked poised to do it again. Sipes
(Red Bull/KTM, KTM 450 SX-F)
had earned the pole position in the
15-lap main by winning the fastest
semi of the night, and he led the
main until a rare miscue left him on
the ground on lap two.
