then Gerston "pretty much in
one swoop," he said.
After that, his main focus
was trying to stay off the
ground, but the combination
of mud and lappers made
that impossible, with all of the
front-runners reporting falling
at least once.
As Gerston explained,
"One of my main things com-
ing into races is to be positive
and have fun doing it. If you
can really lean into that posi-
tive mindset, I think that really
pays dividends in the end.
"Honestly, I didn't do
anything crazy. I just kind of
rode. I fell a couple times
which is weird because I'm
not a crasher so it goes to
show how sketchy it was.
"I'm in the points lead and
I wanted to keep that. I know
this is Joe's home turf and he
was sending it so it could've
bit him. I thought it might
have, but it didn't, so good
for him; he rode great."
Though he lost some
ground in the points chase,
Gerston remains in control
with 135 points to Wasson's
118. In fact, as Gerston point-
ed out, he hasn't finished
lower than second so far this
season, having amassed two
wins and three runner-up
finishes.
While Kamo claimed third
on the Pro podium, in the
overall standings he actually
took a back seat to another
Beta rider, Pro 250 winner
Zane Roberts. Coming from
the second row, he quickly
left the rest of the 250s
behind and concentrated on
passing the Open Pros who'd
started on the first row and
made it a Beta 1-2-3.
"It was a good day! It was
a lot of fun out there," the
Decal Works/Six Five O
Racing/Klim 250 RR rider
declared. "This is about the
third time riding [mud] in my
life, but I seem to do pretty
good in it."
With Kamo slowed on
the last couple laps due
to a burned out clutch, he
counted himself fairly lucky
just to finish, taking fourth
overall and being the final
rider to complete six laps.
Angus Riordan rounded
out the top five overall, the
Cobram Estate Olive Oil KTM
rider simultaneously winning
200cc A and first A overall.
Next month the series
heads to Bellingham, Wash-
ington, for round six, one of
the favorite venues on the
calendar.
