P132 50 Years Ago JUNE 3, 1969 LOOKING BACK The Sidewinders and Sandblasters Motorcycle Clubs teamed up to host a Dual European Scrambles in Ridgecrest, California. The start of one of the races was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. J.N. Roberts (500cc) was one of the dual winners. Mike Patrick (250cc) was the other… We had our coverage of the Nazareth Mile in Pennsylvania, where Fred Nix took the win… We also covered Larry Palmgren's win at the Reading Half Mile. Kent Howerton was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago for winning the AMA 250cc National Motocross at Southwick and putting and end to Bob Hannah's 15-moto win streak. Danny LaPorte made it a Suzuki 1-1 by winning both 500cc motos… We tested the 1979 Yamaha TT500F off-roader… We featured an interview with former MX Champion Gary Jones… Neil Hudson chalked up his second straight win in the FIM 250cc World Championship MX in Genk, Belgium. 40 Years Ago MAY 30, 1979 Noriyuki Haga (41) leads Akira Yanagawa at the World Superbike round in Albacete, Spain, 20 years ago. Kevin Hines checks his scorecard during the Cherry Pit National Enduro in Michigan. He went on to win.
