IN THE WIND P52 Garcia Triumphs At Trefle Lozerien R ound two of the World Enduro Super Series (WESS) brought riders to France, and back to the classic enduro format, with the famous Trefle Lozerien AMV, one of the five French Classics. Red Bull KTM's Josep Garcia of Spain became the first non- French rider to ever win the event in its 33-year history, topping the 600-rider-strong field. Much to the dismay of the partisan crowd, French riders were shut out of the overall podium completely as Great Britain's Jamie McCan- ney and Nathan Watson claimed second and third. Steady rain and fog made for challenging conditions for every- one, and despite claiming "the conditions really didn't suit me," Garcia was the rider to beat on all three days of the event. He topped the first and second days, heading into the third and final day with a 30-second lead, which he handily rode to the win. "To get my first WESS victory of 2019, and also to create a little piece of history by being the first non-French winner here at Trefle Lozerien, is amazing," Garcia said. "I'm not really a big fan of wet, slippery mud, but I pushed hard on all special tests and everything went perfectly. Com- ing here straight from Extreme Lagares wasn't easy but I knew this race was going to be impor- tant to my WESS championship." Garcia started the series with a 14th-place finish at XL Lagares, but emerges from round two with the championship lead ahead of Manny Lettenbichler and Jonny Walker. Behind the dominant rider, the competition was much more fierce. Yamaha's Jaime McCan- ney, a regular in the FIM Enduro World Championship, rode strong to collect second overall.
