FLAT TRACK AMERICAN FLAT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 5/MAY 11, 2019 PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY/PERRIS, CALIFORNIA P74 Indian FTR750) benefited from the restart. Briar moved from fifth to second and was making a big run on Robinson when another hole came into play. "I felt good, I was catching Brandon, and I thought, 'I'm going to win this,'" said Bau- man. "I went into turn three and don't know if I hit a hole or a rock. It ripped my shift le- ver off and took me to fourth gear. The rest of the main event we were geared for third and running fourth. I was stalling it off the corners." Vanderkooi was now in third but had defending AFT Twins Champion Jared Mees (Indian Motorcycle/ Progressive Insurance, Indian FTR750) all over him. Mees had also benefited from the restart moving from seventh to fourth. The race up front settled down, as Briar Bauman's race turned to maintain as opposed to challenge. The Vanderkooi/Mees skirmish was split by Halbert, as Hal- bert worked his way back to the front. On lap 17, Halbert dropped his teammate to fourth but couldn't get back to that challenging position for the lead he had held be- fore the red flag. Vanderkooi recorded his third fourth-place finish of the five races run this year. Mees was two-tenths of a second back in fifth. Bronson Bau- man cruised home alone in sixth. Rookie Brandon Price (Roof Systems of Dallas, TX/ DPC Racing, Indian FTR750) had his best results ever in an AFT Twins main event as he held off Davis Fisher for were some positives in the day. We're making a lot of progress. I'm ready to just go into the miles." PEGRAM'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE Larry Pegram continues his excellent adventure in the AFT Twins class. He won the second semi and backed that up by getting the holeshot in the main. Unfortu- nately for him, a couple of slips throughout the race relegated Pegram to a 10th-place finish in the main. CONSISTENCY IS KEY Consistency has kept the points leaders in both the AFT Twins and AFT Singles class at the top. In the Twins class, Briar Bau- man has been on the podium in every race and holds a 13-point lead over Brandon Robinson. Defending AFT Twins champion Jared Mees is another nine back. In the Singles class, Dalton Gauthier still has the advantage over Jesse Janisch by 10 points. Defending AFT Singles Champion Dan Bromley is in third another 13 back. Briefly... Cory Texter (65) held off Ryan Varnes (68) and Kayl Kolkman (98) for the Production Twins victory.
