SUPERCROSS
ROUND 17 / MAY 4, 2019
SAM BOYD STADIUM / LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
P74
MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS
would later do in the 450SX
class. Ferrandis knew he had to
win in Las Vegas to have a shot
at stealing the 250SX West title
away from Adam Cianciarulo
(Monster Energy/Pro Circuit
Kawasaki), and he grabbed a
rare (for him) good start and
took off with the main-event win.
Behind him, Cianciarulo worked
his way into third, which was
good enough to win the title, but
then Cianciarulo cross-rutted
went down, bent his KX250F to
the point it was nearly unrideable
HERO TO ZERO
Mitch Oldenburg was on a roll com-
ing into Vegas, and he continued
that roll by qualifying first in the
250SX East daytime qualifiers, but
then he crashed in the exact same
spot twice—once in his heat race
and once in the LCQ—and ended
up underneath his YZ250F both
times, keeping him out of the final
main event of the season.
5 STRAIGHT
Cooper Webb won his first-ever 450SX
title in Las Vegas, and it marked the
fifth 450SX title in a row for the KTM/
Husqvarna motorcycle group. The
last championship won by a Japanese
brand (and on an aluminum frame
motorcycle) was a Kawasaki ridden by
Ryan Villopoto in 2014.
COOPER DIDN'T
CRACK
When asked during the press
conference if seeing Adam Ciancia-
rulo crash out of his championship
made him nervous about his own
prospects, Cooper Webb answered
succinctly: "He cracked. I didn't."
Briefly...
Chase Sexton took
third in the 250SX East-
West main event, but
that was good enough
to wrap up the 250SX
East Championship.
