CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 56 ISSUE 18 MAY 7, 2019 P63 BY STEVE COX PHOTOGRAPHY BY BROWNDOG WILSON N o matter which way it went in Las Vegas, all three championships—the 450SX, 250SX East and 250SX West—would see brand-new champions, as none of the racers who had a mathematical chance in any of those championships had ever won one before in their classes. Eight points separated the top two in the 250SX West class, and nine points separated the top two in the 250SX East title chase. A whopping 23 points sepa- rated the top two in the 450SX champion- ship, so it seemed likely for all of the titles to go to those who led the points chases in all of their classes. For two of the three titles, it panned out exactly as predicted. For the third, however, it did not. Geico Honda's Chase Sexton was never seriously challenged by his closest 250SX East title rival Justin Cooper in the 250SX East/West Shootout. With 23 points to give, Red Bull KTM's Cooper Webb could've pulled out of his main event with six laps to go and still won the title, but 250SX Cooper Webb celebrates his first 450SX title, while KTM celebrates its fourth.
