IN THE WIND P36 Carver Cashes In At Digger Helm Memorial W illow Springs Raceway hosted the Digger Helm Memorial, a round of the Eddie Mulders West Coast Dirt Track Se- ries, in Rosamond, California, May 4-5. Twenty Pro racers turned up for a piece of the $57,000 purse. Jeffrey Carver ended up taking the biggest chunk. Riding a Ron Woods Rotax sin- gle, Carver was the big winner on Sunday, as he took the Dash For Cash and the Pro main event over the Dodge Bros. Harley-Davidson XR750 ridden by Sammy Halbert, and Indian-mounted Jared Mees in both races. In the Dash For Cash, Carver got the holeshot and never looked back, while Halbert and Mees battled for second. Halbert held Mees back to claim the position, while Mikey Rush, on a Honda CRF450, took fourth. Halbert grabbed the holeshot in The Digger Helm Pro race. He looked like he was going to walk away with the win when Carver started to gain on him lap after lap. With a handful of laps to go, Carver made his move on Hal- bert and drove under him in turn four. Halbert got the drive out of the corner and pulled away. The Woods bike seemed to be on rails the rest of the race, as Halbert tried to gain the spot back but to no avail. Mees did not get a good start and was a distant third place over 2018 AFT Single Champion Dan Bromley (KTM) and Rush. Dalton Gauthier rode one of the Dodge Bros XR750s and settled into sixth-place position, where he would finish out the race. Mitch Friedman Dash for Cash 1. Jeffrey Carver (W-R) 2.
