Holcombe Maintains Enduro World
Championship Lead
S
teve Holcombe maintained
his points lead in the FIM
Maxxis Enduro World Cham-
pionship in Portugal, May 4-5.
The Beta rider dominated the
first day of competition and
finished second overall on day
two.
The Brit won a total of five
tests on Saturday, leaving the
rest of the field to fight among
themselves for the two remain-
ing spots on the podium, which
ended up going to Alex Salvini
(Honda) and Brad Freeman
(Beta).
Holcombe, however, could
not repeat his performance on
Sunday, though he gave it a
good shot. Beta compatriot,
Freeman, got off to a fast start,
and he managed to keep Hol-
combe at bay all day.
Freeman took the day's win, fol-
lowed by Holcombe and Salvini.
"It was a great day, but it
wasn't without mistakes!" said
Freeman. "Steve and I both
made mistakes and fell several
times. The hard work I've put in
this winter has paid off with this
overall victory in Enduro GP; it's
just incredible. I'll try to do the
same thing in Spain next week!"
Holcombe admitted that he
got a little worn out on Sunday.
"It was harder on Sunday," he
said. "I am not overly satisfied
with my physical condition lately.
Nevertheless, I remain satisfied
with my result. Brad has been
great and I have to congratulate
him on this deserved victory. I
now want to rest well and arrive
next week in great shape."
Holcombe leads Freeman by
eight points in the EnduroGP-
class championship. CN
