IN THE WIND P40 Kordana Tops Holiday Mountain SRT AMA East Hare Scrambles R ound four of the SRT AMA East Hare Scrambles Cham- pionship Series, hosted by NETRA's Tri-State M.C., ran its course in at Holiday Mountain in Monticello, New York, May 4-5. What seems to be an ex- pected occurrence now, rain, once again, played a significant role in the 2019 SRT AMA East Hare Scrambles Series. Steady rain on Friday and Saturday left the trail workers scrambling to provide a safe and fun event. The venue, a ski resort with moun- tainous trails, provided a good challenge for the racers. In the main event, 20 AA racers got their lift tickets and lined up for the two-hour race. This was one of the largest AA turnouts thus far this season. In the first turn, it was KTM rider Nic Kordana with the holeshot. He would stay in the lead for most of the first lap, but gain- ing momentum in second place was GasGas-mounted Brendan Riordon. As they came out of the last woods section, it was Riordon in the lead but by only a few sec- onds. These two would trade up no less than five times through- out the race, making for some incredible racing action for the spectators. KTM's John Kelley was back in third trailing by about 40 sec- onds around the halfway point. Last year's winner, Beta's Brian Dussault, had a bad start and was climbing his way through the pack in the sixth position. On the white-flag lap, Kor- dana and Riordon continued their battle over first place, while Dussault and Kelley were battling for the final podium spot. In the end, Kordana managed to make a final-lap pass up one of the hills, and then Riordon suffered a crash on one of the downhills. Dussault held off Kelley for third. In the C event, Dan Forgione out-dueled James Baker before pulling away for the win. Vet racer Brendan Dwyer made a late-race push that enabled him to catch and pass Baker for sec- ond overall.
