VOL. 56 ISSUE 18 MAY 7, 2019 P107 had to start from the back of the 21-rider grid in race one after he missed the start of the warm-up lap—he still won—but not by much. Landers fought his way to the front and engaged in a fierce scrap with Dallas Daniels (Quar- terley Racing/On Track Develop- ment Kawasaki), who led onto the straight on the last lap, only for Landers to steal the win at the line by 0.023 seconds. Third in race one was Altus Mo- torsports rider Kevin Olmedo, who completed the Kawasaki podium sweep. Yamaha riders Samuel Lochoff (Yam) and Jackson Black- mon rounded out the top five. Race two, however, was a dif- ferent story with Cameron Jones, on the only Honda CBR500R in the field, taking his and Honda's first (in any class!) win. In treach- erous conditions that saw the red flag come out after two laps to al- low riders to change to wet tires, Jones took an 11-second win over Blackmon (who received a one position penalty for lining up on the wrong grid position), and Kawasaki riders Trevor Standish with Daniels and Joseph LiMandri Jr. completing the top five. In the championship, Landers leads on 80 from Daniels (73) and Blackmon on 46. Stock 1000 Team Norris Racing's Michael Gilbert gave the fans what they wanted with a 0.350-second vic- tory in the Stock 1000 category over Stefano Mesa (MESA37 Rac- ing Kawasaki, with Travis Wyman a further second back on the Weir Everywhere Racing BMW. After qualifying fourth with Wyman on pole, Gilbert got the holeshot and made up for his last- lap defeat in round one at Road Atlanta, holding his nerve to the flag for his first national champion- ship 1000cc race win. Current champion and round-one winner Andrew Lee (Franklin Armory/ Graves Racing Kawasaki) came home fourth. "My whole plan was to try to get out front," said Gilbert. "I know that I'm really good with consistency and I wanted to try and wear these guys down." In the championship, Gilbert Michael Gilbert (55) sent it to the line for this first national 1000cc win in Stock 1000.
