got around Davalos, with Sexton
leading the way. An interesting
situation developed when Olden-
burg—Cooper's teammate—be-
gan challenging him for second
place, which has significant title
implications. Would Oldenburg
hang back? The answer came
quickly: no.
Somewhat surprisingly,
Oldenburg passed Cooper for
second and squirted away. Old-
enburg was clearly faster than
Cooper on this night and just
couldn't hold himself back.
Oldenburg said, "There [were]
no team orders from our side,
so I was just going out there to
do the best I could," which he
hoped would result in his first
career SX win. Unfortunately
for him, it didn't, but he did get
the next best thing—a second to
Sexton.
Cooper finished third three
seconds behind Oldenburg and
seven seconds ahead of fourth-
place Davalos.
Brandon Hartranft (Cycle-
tween leader Webb and Tomac.
"I don't want to mess with
anything that either of these
guys [Webb and Tomac] have
going on, it's a huge thing on
the line," Osborne said. "It was a
worst-case scenario for me to be
stuck in between them. I wanted
to go for it and race forward. Eli
passed me, and then they were
going at it. I made the pass [on
Webb] finally and was feeling re-
ally good. I just clipped that [sec-
tion of track] off a tiny bit, and it
pushed me forward on the bike
and missed my brake and went
up the berm. Then I backed
down and almost backed into
[Webb]."
Osborne went on to finish
out the race in second for his
first podium of the season and
career.
250SX East
When Forkner pulled out on the
third lap of the 250SX East main
event because of his knee, the
2019 250SX East Champion-
ship, like the 450SX class, was
suddenly turned into a two-horse
race for the title, between Sex-
ton and Justin Cooper. Only four
points separated Sexton from
Cooper going into the race, and
they were both well ahead of the
next-best rider Martin Davalos,
who was the early 250SX East
main leader in N.J. after Alex
Martin, who had taken the hole-
shot, went down.
Sexton settled into second,
Cooper third and Oldenburg
fourth. Eventually, all three riders
