Oliveira Wins Virginia City Grand Prix

PM Racing's Dante Oliveira won the Virginia City GP, April 27-28, after a long,
hard battle with Beta riders Zane Roberts and Ty Tremaine.
The Virginia City GP is now in its 48th year and is probably the only motorcycle race
that takes place in a National Historic Landmark. The event is staged on C Street in
downtown Virginia City, a mining town straight out of the gold rush era of the Ameri-
can West. This year, the riders returned to the main drag at the end of every lap, treat-
ing the locals to prime viewing of an extreme section right in front of the town bar.
For the start on Saturday, over 400 experts and intermediates crowded the street
and were launched in rows of 10. A good starting position is so highly coveted that
two early starts are auctioned off beforehand to raise money for local charities. De-
spite that, 2017 winner Ty Tremaine came up from the second wave to take the lead
on the first lap of the 24-mile course. From there on, it was a matter of all the favorites
coming to the front.
First-timers Oliveira, Dalton Shirey, and Blayne Thompson were pitted against
experienced Virginia City regulars like Ross Neely and Zane Roberts, who know all
