FLAT TRACK AMERICAN FLAT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 4/APRIL 27, 2019 WILD HORSE PASS MOTORSPORTS PARK/CHANDLER, ARIZONA P72 WHAT'S THE POINT? The points leaders in both the AFT Singles and AFT Twins classes remain the same after both finished second in their main events in Ari- zona. Dalton Gauthier holds a seven- point lead in the Singles class over Jesse Janisch, who is the first repeat winner in 2019 in either class. Mikey Rush is another nine points back. Briar Bauman holds a little more sub- stantial lead in the AFT Twins class over Jared Mees and Brandon Robin- son, who are tied 18 points down. SMITH A SCRATCH A surprise late scratch was Bryan Smith. "We struggled badly at the last race and need to take a minute to regroup before we get back to the ovals," he said. Smith and the Howerton Racing Team's return to Kawasaki power has been slow to show fruit, but the upcoming races should be more to their liking. BREAK TIME With an open weekend on the horizon, many of the AFT riders are looking forward to a little recovery time. Once again, several riders were battered and bruised leaving the event. Kurtis Lee and Blake Lomas Briefly... There were two starts to the main, as a first-turn pileup elimi- nated four riders out of the 17-rider field. Kolby Carlile and James Mo- naco crashed heavily and collect- ed Davis Fisher, Henry Wiles, and Rob Pearson. Only Fisher would be able to continue. Rob Pearson ran over Carlile's motorcycle but did not fall. His bike suffered a flat tire and broken brake pedal, so he was out of the race. Bauman, once again, got a perfect start and the race looked like it would be for second place. Jeffrey Carver (Roof-Systems of Dallas, TX/Indian of Metro Milwau- kee, Indian FTR750) held second Beach ran down race leader Briar Bauman (14) to give Yamaha its first Twins win since 1981.
