THE
WIND
P38
Husqvarna rider who did a lot of
winning in the California desert
and Baja in the late 1960s and
early '70s.
Malcolm Smith was on hand
to talk about A.C., as well.
Other inductees included
motocrossers Mark Blackwell
and Rex Staten, as well as
Ed Burke, who was a Yamaha
research and design executive.
John Penton was recognized,
as well. Penton, of course, was
one of the biggest influences
when it came to enduro and
ISDT racing in America with the
Penton motorcycle brand.
Trailblazers President Don
Emde, 1972 Daytona 200 win-
ner, said, "The purpose of the
Trailblazers banquet has always
been straightforward—once a
year we give former racers and
members of the motorcycle in-
dustry a chance to reunite with
old friends from days gone by."
This year, the legendary
cast in attendance included
many former world and national
champions, including the first
American to win the 500cc Mo-
tocross World Championship,
Brad Lackey, and his wife, Lori.
As mentioned, the legendary
Malcolm Smith was on hand,
as well as Mert Lawwill, Bubba
Shobert, Kenny Roberts and
Bob Hannah.
Motorcycles also got their
recognition. Here is a list of
