VOL. 56 ISSUE 16 APRIL 23, 2019 P27 smooth. I don't even know what happened to him. I got around him, and I just rode in first all day and cruised." Back in the pack, the racing was fierce, with numer- ous battles and position changes. Buddy Fortune put his Yamaha in second place briefly, but he eventually ran out of steam, with dehydration dropping the teenager from nearby Sterling, Illinois, back to seventh-place at the finish. Meanwhile, Sulzberger, who was battling with Fortune all day, was able to maintain second place, where he ran until the final lap when Zuidema bumped him from the spot. Zuidema said, "I got a good start. The first couple of laps I had arm pump pretty bad." When Zuidema stopped for gas, however, they were able to get the arm muscles to relax, and Zuidema returned to the battle on a mission. "My dad told me that second place was right there, so I just started to push." Sulzberger, who rides, in his words, a "tired 2016 YZ250," was happy to be on the podium. "I had a good day," he said with a big smile. "I just kind of rode my own race and tried to stay aggressive the whole time. I was fortunate enough to hold second for a while. I thought I had it, then Zuidema caught me the last quarter of the last lap and passed me. Oh man, I was bummed. It was a lot of hard work. I almost thought I had second, but I'm pretty darn happy with third. This year I feel really strong. I think I've got some steam behind me." John Gasso OVERALL 1. Tanner Whipple (KTM) 2. David Stickel (KTM) Reed, Peick Hope For Return... Soon! T he JGR/Yoshimura Suzuki Team says that Weston Peick is back on the bike and Chad Reed has his sights set on racing the Supercross final at Las Vegas. Peick, who was injured at the Bercy Supercross in November 2018, hopes to be ready for the outdoor nationals that start up in May. Team Manager Jeremy Albrecht said, "Weston rode for the first time since his accident this past week at Milestone. He still has very limited vision in his one eye, so the first time out was a challenge. However, he is going to ride several more times before he and the team decide if he is capable of rac- ing the nationals. Weston has been keeping up in his off-the-bike training. It's just a matter of whether his bad eye will improve." As for Reed, Albrecht says, "Chad is wear- ing a sling for his broken scapula, but that's really more for prevention than anything. His eight broken ribs are healing nicely and don't seem to bother him too much. He's still blowing into the breathing tester after his collapsed lung. Chad still plans on racing Las Vegas, but that remains to be seen until more time has passed." CN Westin Peick is back on the bike, hoping to return for the nationals. Jayson Crawford won the Open B class.
