MOTOAMERICA
AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICA ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 2 / APRIL 12-14, 2019
CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS / AUSTIN, TEXAS
P88
ing off a first ever class win until
the final few laps when Elias and
Beaubier picked up the pace.
"Just had a little bit of trouble
getting the bike started," Gerloff
said. "The pace car passed me,
so I guess by the rules I had to
start from the back of the grid.
Definitely a hard first lap because
the first sector is all just one line,
it seems like. I was getting pretty
frustrated trying to get around
these guys. Luckily Cameron,
amazing ride. [But] I played my
card. Was good."
Third in race one went to Beau-
bier's Yamaha teammate Garrett
Gerloff, the Texan taking his first
Superbike podium of the year at
his home track. It was a sterling
ride from Gerloff, who had to
start in last place after a techni-
cal issue on the sighting lap saw
the pace car pass him, relegating
him to the back of the field. He,
at times, looked capable of pull-
or be in second or third position.
It was much easier just because
the wind is much less. The wind
made me make a couple mis-
takes in the last lap when I was
pushing hard. I think for that, he
was more close than the other
laps. I didn't expect him to pass
me on the bridge down there. I
didn't expect it. I tried to move
quick, and also I closed the door
before the last corner, but he
made it. So, congratulations. An
Toni Elias (24)
took pole and
made a lightning
start in race one,
eventually coming
home ahead of
Beaubier (1).
