IN THE WIND P36 DeLong Wins New Jersey SRT-AMA East Hare Scrambles T he third round of the SRT-AMA East Hare Scrambles Series took place in Millville, New Jer- sey, April 6-7, and it also acted as the opening round of the ECEA Hare Scrambles Series. For once, rain was not a major factor this season and the nearly 800-strong participants were happy to have that, especially Andrew DeLong (Matto Cycle). DeLong piloted his Honda to the overall win after chasing KTM rider Ryder Lafferty for much of the race. Lafferty, the defending ECEA Champion, worked his way to the front of the pack, while DeLong chased in second place. It looked as though it would be Lafferty's day until he came to a sudden halt when a tree root knocked the chain off his bike. As he raced to get the chain back on, DeLong came along and passed him for the lead, but not before slowing down to make sure that he was okay. Lafferty said, "yes," and DeLong continued on his way. Lafferty eventually re-righted the chain and took off after the new leader but just couldn't make it happen on this day. DeLong went on to take the win with Lafferty taking second place, just 10 seconds back. Beta USA's Kyle McDonal found himself in third but also behind a long line of lapped rid- ers that was holding him up. You could see the frustration through his goggles. He kept his cool, though, and went about his busi- ness and was rewarded with third place and a trip to the podium. Kyle Tino (KTM) was third, fol- lowed by Johnny Manera (KTM). The morning "C" race fetched a record 350 riders, and all eyes were locked on Saturday's Youth overall winner Brayden Nolette (Trail Jesters KTM). Could he do it again? Yes! The 13-year-old jumped out to an early lead and never looked back for the win. Second place went to C-200 racer "Flying" Josh Kouchek, aboard a KTM 125, while third overall went to Schoolboy 2 win- ner William Holmes (KTM). As mentioned, Nolette won Saturday's Youth race, followed by Dylin Hicks (KTM) and Kyle Grenewicz (Honda). Kenny Held AA Results 1. Andrew Delong (Hon) 2. Ryder Lafferty (KTM) 3.
