Haaker Wins 2019 FIM SuperEnduro
Championship
I
t was a dramatic conclusion to
the 2019 Maxxis FIM Super-
Enduro World Championship in
Bilbao, Spain, April 6. When it
was all over, Colton Haaker was
rewarded with his third title, de-
spite defending champion Cody
Webb taking the overall win for
the night.
Going into the final, three rid-
ers—Haaker, Webb and Taddy
Blazusiak—had a mathematical
shot at the championship. Haaker
came into the race with a modest
12-point lead over Webb. Blazu-
siak was a distant third.
Haaker appeared to have crum-
bled under the pressure early in
the first race. One mistake after
another put him well down in the
pack with Webb way out in front.
But Haaker got a huge break
when the race was red-flagged
and restarted. A section of the
racecourse had been damaged,
and officials stopped the race to
make repairs.
Haaker fared much better after
the re-start but still finished in third
behind both Webb and Blazusiak.
Haaker's points lead over Webb
had shrunk to six going into the
second race. Haaker took the
lead three laps into the second
race and held on for the win,
while Webb ended up second af-
ter making a few mistakes, giving
three points back to Haaker.
Blazusiak was third in the race,
officially eliminating him from
championship contention. It was
now a two-man shootout for the
2019 title.
Haaker needed to finish fourth
or better to take the title even if
