IN THE WIND P40 Wasson On A Role T hree weeks ago, Beta USA's Joe Wasson had yet to overall a round of the Kenda/SRT AMA Hare & Hound National Cham- pionship Series, Presented by FMF. After round three in Murphy, Idaho, he joined that elite crowd of overall winners. And now, at round four—the 59th Cherry Creek Hare & Hound, hosted by the Sugarloaf- ers Motorcycle Club at the Little Sahara Off-Highway Vehicle Area—he backed that initial tri- umph with a second consecutive victory. In doing so, he moved into a tie at the top of the points table with Off-Road Support/TBT Racing Kawasaki privateer Jacob Argu- bright, 106-106, with 3 Bros./SRT Husqvarna's Dalton Shirey split- ting them in second place for the day. Wasson's record through the first four rounds is 3-2-1-1, while Argubright has gone 1-1-2-3. "I'm ecstatic right now, so ex- cited!" Wasson said. After a pretty good start, the Motul/GPR Stabi- lizers/Fly Racing-backed 430 RR rider continued, "I think I came out about fourth [at the bomb]. I was able to get past [Purvines Racing Yamaha rider Nick] Bur- son, and I think [Garrett Off-road Racing KTM's] Kadin Guard was in front of me maybe. "So I was able to [hold] sec- ond, and we had a pretty quick pit [at the end of the 25-mile first loop]. As Dalton pulled in for gas, I was able to sneak by him right there and I just kind of put it in overdrive and set the cruise control and went for it." Shirey had pulled the holeshot on his FMF/Zip-Ty Racing/Troy Lee Designs-sponsored FX 450, and though he led the first loop, he confessed he struggled. "I was leading the whole first loop, but I was riding super-tight—I had arm pump and stuff," he said. After getting passed while pitting the first time, it got worse, Shirey said. Joe Wasson scored his second career and second consecutive H&H National victory at Cherry Creek.
