MOTOGP FIM MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 2 / MARCH 29-31, 2019 TERMAS DE RIO HONDO CIRCUIT / TERMAS DE RIO HONDO, ARGENTINA P70 the latter part of the interesting Termas lap. He and Dovi would be close for the rest of the race, chang- ing places now and again until, on lap 14, Dovi used his extra horsepower to take control of second place. It stayed that way until more than halfway around the final lap. "I was managing the tires," said Dovi, "but unfortu- nately Valentino had the chance to study me." The Yamaha had stayed ultra-close in spite of the speed deficit, waiting for the closing stages. "I was able to stay with iii My Own Race: 99 JORGE LORENZO 12TH MOTOGP "In warm up, we made quite a big step, and I was able to be faster, and I felt good for the race," Lorenzo said. "Unfortunately, we had some very unlucky things happen, at the start I hit the pit limiter and the bike wouldn't go. When I realized I was at the back, I had to fight through, I was able to move forward, but we can't be happy with this result." 9 DANILO PETRUCCI 6TH MOTOGP "I'm happy because, after making some mistakes during qualifying, today we managed to give our best out there on the track," Petrucci said. "Had I started a bit closer to the front, I probably could have fought for the podium until the very end, but I had to ask a lot of the tires to climb back through the field, and in the last couple of laps I was really struggling with the rear under braking, so I had to play defense. Still, I'm satisfied because we worked well here, improving day by day, and I want to maintain the momentum at Austin, where first and foremost I'll need to be stronger in qualifying." 87 REMY GARDNER 2ND MOTO2 "It's kind of like, I'm expecting myself to be here, so I'm not surprised in my- self," Gardner said of his first GP podium. "But also, it's like... finally. It was a feeling of euphoria when I passed the line. It's not like a massive surprise to me, from last year I knew I could do it. It's just nice to see it has paid off. Honestly, the last two years—I'm not here to bag anyone or the bike or the team—but the last two years were hard. We didn't have the latest equipment. It was a good school, it taught me well. We got some decent results on what we had last year, and it definitely prepared me better for this year, now that I'm on some very good equipment." FERNANDEZ'S FALL Spaniard Augusto Fernandez was ruled out of the Argentine round, and possibly the next race as well, after breaking bones in his left wrist in a spectacular free practice crash right in front of the pits. The Pons HP40 Kalex rider actually sustained the injury before he hit the ground, after fighting to retain control as the bike went into an increasingly severe tank-slapper out of the final corner. Finally, he was flung up from the seat, throwing his weight onto his left hand still clutching the handlebar. He landed heavily and was stretchered off, but while the airbags and safety equipment prevented further injury, the damage was already done. He was flown home to Spain for cor- rective surgery by famed MotoGP surgeon Xavier Mir. JACK'S NEW ZEALAND TRIBUTE Australian rider Jack Miller had a personal tribute to the victims of the one-man mosque massacre in neighboring New Zealand, in which the death toll had risen to more than 50. Both of his parents are New Zealanders, and his number "43" on Briefly...
