APRIL 5, 1989
Yamaha's all-new R7 that we tested was pictured in action on the cover
of Cycle News 20 years ago… Jeremy McGrath won the St. Louis
Supercross. It was his sixth victory of the season… We tested the
Suzuki GSX1200R Hayabusa against the radar gun and were pretty
excited about the bike's top run at 190.2 mph… Ducati's Carl Fogerty
won both legs of the FIM World Superbike Championship in South
Africa… Justin Buckelew was the star at the GNC International Finals
at Mosier Valley.

Carl Fogerty leads the way at the World Superbike round in
South Africa 20 years ago.
Jeff Stanton was on the cover of Cycle News 30 years ago to
accompany our interview with the future supercross champion, who in
1988 was the AMA's rookie of the year… Jeff Ward captured his first
supercross win of 1989 at the Tampa SX. Mike Kiedrowski won the
125cc East main event… Kawasaki rider Terry Cunningham edged
out Kurt Hough by one point to win the Cherokee National Enduro in
Georgia… Phil Tannery won the
Pro Stock Motorcycle class at
the Gatornationals.
