VOL. 56 ISSUE 10 MARCH 12, 2019 P77
LATE START
Steward Baylor got off to a late start to
his off-season conditioning program
due to a knee injury. "Five weeks ago I
walked into the doctor's office and he
told me I shouldn't be walking," said
Baylor. "I needed surgery. Much less
going and trying to line up the follow-
ing weekend. I blew out my ACL/MCL/
PCL, patella ligament, meniscus, full
total knee. So if you would have asked
me the week before that if I was coming
out to win the GNCC, that was the goal.
Since then, it's been tough mentally,
physically. Had to take a few weeks off.
Luckily we had a really good baseline.
My trainer and I were working our ass
off before that. So when we took our
three weeks off, we came right back
into the swing of things."
BACK AT IT
Normally GNCC takes at least a week
break between races, but not this time.
Soon after finishing the Wild Boar,
riders were already prepping for the
short drive to Washington, Georgia, for
next weekend's race. The General is a
favorite of the GNCC regulars.
SIPES SURRENDERS
Ryan Sipes, who competed in the
Daytona Supercross the night before,
pulled out after the first lap. The KTM
rider recently injured his shoulder and
couldn't handle the pain on the rough
GNCC racecourse. Sipes planned on
completing the Daytona trifecta—racing
Supercross, GNCC and the American
Flat Track opening round—but couldn't
quite endure the full three-hour Wild
Boar GNCC. He still plans to race the
AFT TT opener on Thursday.
Briefly...
Steward Baylor
scored a surprising
win at the opening
round of the 2019
GNCC Series in
Palatka.
