hen he's on, he's
on, and when he's
not, he's not. That's
pretty much been the story of
Eli Tomac so far this year—his
inconsistency. You never know
which Tomac you're going to
see—the one that is on or the
one that is off—on any given
weekend. Except maybe at
this track.
Most would've bet that
it would be "on" based on
Tomac's history at the Daytona
Supercross. It's been pretty
good. He's won here twice in
the last three years. And the one
he didn't win during that span
was only by a few seconds.
But it appeared we were go-
ing to see the off Tomac after
the first timed qualifying ses-
sion—he was ninth quickest. He
picked up the pace a bit in the
second and final session but
was still approximately a sec-
ond-and-a-half slower than that
of top-qualifier Marvin Musquin,
who nearly won here last year.
Musquin came into this year's
race highly motivated to get a
win because it's something he
hasn't been able to do all sea-
son (but what his young team-
mate, Cooper Webb, has been
able to do it five times).
