IN THE WIND P54 McDonal Masters VXCA East Hare Scrambles I t was another wet one for the riders of the 2019 SRT-AMA East Hare Scram- bles Championship in Garysburg, North Carolina, March 2-3. Just like the open- er, the racers were faced with extremely wet conditions, and as a result, many of the races were modified just to get them in. However, there was no stopping Beta USA's Kyle McDonal who seems to thrive off the wet stuff. When the gate finally dropped for the delayed start of the AA race, Hunter Bush grabbed the holeshot, but he would get quickly swallowed up by one of the many mud holes. This allowed McDonal to take the point posi- tion, and he led the race after the completion of the first lap. McDonal and his Beta proved no match for the rain-soaked racecourse and ultimately delivered one of his best rides ever. He just kept blowing through the mud holes and managed to maintain a pace that no one could match as he rode off to victory. Gary Enman (Yamaha), however, did his best to keep McDonal honest and was also blazing through the wet trails quite well. Behind Enman, Justin Lafferty (KTM) and Mat- thew Davis (Yamaha) were engaged in their battle for a while until Lafferty suffered a mechanical is- sue that dropped him back a few positions. And then there were Hunter Bush and Tanner Bush who were giving chase, but they too would get hung up in one of the many mud holes. Bush, however, managed to mount a comeback that car- ried him up to the front of the pack. Bush soon had control of third and slipped into second place on the final lap, dropping Davis back to third. Enman, meanwhile, had already ran into his own problems and dropped back. After just two rounds, McDonal, who was sixth in the first round, is now the new points leader. In the morning Youth race, the kids got plenty of experience riding in the wet. It was the 12-13 Super Mini line that stole the show. Griere Moir (KTM) and Kenito Held (Team Perfect Storm Suzuki) engaged in a battle for the class win, which carried them past the 14-16 Super Mini line that started ahead of them. The two eventually caught the over- all leader Zach Stoe (Kawasaki) and passed him. Moir ended up holding Held off for the overall win, while Stoe took third. Camryn Popek (Cobra) won the 50cc race, fol- lowed by Carson Shelton (KTM) and Gabe Molinari (FFR Cobra). Kenneth Held OVERALL 1. Kyle McDonal (Bet) 2. Hunter Bush (Yam) 3. Matthew Davis (Yam) Kyle McDonal won the second round of the SRT- AMA East Hare Scrambles Series in North Carolina.
