SUPERCROSS ROUND 8 / FEBRUARY 23, 2019 FORD FIELD / DETROIT, MICHIGAN P56 MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS gy, Wilson, Barcia, Webb, Reed, Roczen, Plessinger, Musquin, Brayton, Osborne and Tomac. And things only got worse for Tomac when he went off the track early in the race and gave up a couple more spots before he mounted his charge back through the field. Webb did likewise out front, though, as he worked his way by Wilson and Savatgy, then Baggett after Barcia took the lead away from him. And then, after a handful of laps looking for a way around Barcia, Webb made a pass stick and pulled away to take the win. However, in the waning laps, Tomac inherited sixth place when Roczen and Wilson collided, sending Wilson down to the dirt, and Tomac ended up sixth in the race, which was enough to give him the over- all by one point over Webb (1-1-6 to 6-2-1). "I knew I had to go forward, and [mechanic Brian] Kranz did a good job tonight putting the position on there [the pit board]," Tomac said. "At one point, he put, '3 more guys' so I was like, 'Man, we're going to have to work for this one,' and then with 'Deano' [Wilson] going down, that made it a little bit easier, but either way, it was pretty tough there." Webb ended up second overall on the night, while Reed grabbed third after finishing seventh in the final main event of the evening. "Tonight, if I would've had my race again that I had last week, I would say it would be pretty close Arlington, he injured his wrist, which hampered his efforts in Detroit. "It was last weekend, with two laps to go, whenever I fell in the whoops, I just held on to the bike a little too long and twisted it real weird," Smith said. "I went to the doctor's on Monday and got x-rays and an MRI, and there's nothing broken or torn, just a bone bruise. I took all week off to try to let it heal and tried to ride Thurs- day, and I got one 10-minute moto in. I knew I was going to have to do practice and three 10s here, but that's all I could get. I worked on some starts, and those paid off tonight, but Dr. Navarro just taped it up real good, and that helped stabilize it, and then Mobius actually sent me some wrist-braces this week to try, so that helped a lot to stabilize it on landings from jumps and stuff, so without that, I probably would not have been able to make it through the night." Briefly... to being over with for that cham- pionship," Tomac said. "Just such a better weekend. We were just feeling it through all those prac- tices, and of course, going into that third main there with that big cushion, it's like sometimes you get a little too comfy; I totally blew the start there, then I had another spot where I went flying off and almost hit the hay bales, but I got it back together. And, of course, Coop's charging toward the front, and I'm watching that on the pit board, too, and I'm like, 'Gosh, man, we've got to go.' But, over- all, such a better weekend for us, and it just feels good to be here." Roczen was fourth overall, los- ing four valuable points to Webb in the championship chase, while Baggett was fifth and Musquin was sixth on the evening. As the series heads toward its halfway point, Webb now leads the championship by six points over Roczen, with Musquin anoth- er six points behind, and Tomac one point further back in fourth. Blake Baggett finished a close second in the final race.
