Our special Daytona Preview Issue hit the stands 20 years this
week. It included interviews with Scott Russell, Mike LaRocco and
Eric Bostrom… We reported that Ed Youngblood had resigned
as the president of the AMA… We also broke news that the World
Championship Road Race Series would be all four-strokes in 2001…
Kevin Windham was the winner of the Tampa Supercross at Raymond
James Stadium; Ernesto Fonseca won the 125cc East class... We
tested the 1999 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa.
Rick Johnson, Jeff Stanton and Damon Bradshaw celebrating on the
San Diego Supercross podium was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 30
years ago. Johnson took the win, his fourth straight… Larry Roeseler won
the Desert Vipers' Adelanto Grand Prix… Barry Carsten, Jeff Beckington
and Gene Naumec stole the show at the Supercross Countdown Series
at Gatorback Park in Florida… Randy
Hawkins won the Sumter Enduro in
South Carolina… Jimmy Button won
the 125cc Intermediate class in the
Golden State Series at Marysville.
