SUPERCROSS ROUND 5 / FEBRUARY 3, 2019 PETCO PARK / SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA P58 MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS iii My Own Race: 25 MARVIN MUSQUIN 2ND 450SX Marvin Musquin has now finished second three races in a row and now sits second in points, four points behind leader/rival Eli Tomac. "In the main, I tried to get a decent start, but I didn't; I was pretty far back, and my helmet was super-heavy, and my goggles were full of mud, and the first lap I was pretty much blind," Musquin said. "It was so tough. I tried to scrape the mud off my goggles, and I almost removed my goggles, too; I was so close to doing it, and I didn't, which is awesome, because it saved me, and the roll-offs worked toward the end. I had no idea where I was and just tried to make passes, and I got around [Justin] Bogle, and it was kind of tough to get around guys. You want to push, but you don't want to make a mistake and crash in those conditions. The last lap, I saw Kenny [Roczen] was in front of me, and I got around him by the finish line, and I guess I was not far behind Eli [Tomac] and I looked at the board and I was second, so good result." 22 CHAD REED 5TH 450SX Chad Reed had his best finish of the year in San Diego. "This was prob- ably the worst mud race I've ever had," Reed said. "So, fifth isn't too bad." Reed is ninth in points with 12 rounds to go. 2 COOPER WEBB 8TH 450SX "It was an up-and-down weekend," Cooper Webb said. "It rained a lot, so it made for a challenging day but I qualified second, which was good. The heat race went well, I got a second in that, too. In the main event, I had a decent start and was running fifth but I got held up; I'm not sure if Marv's bike stalled in front of me, but I ended up going over the handlebars and was able to manage an eighth place for tonight. It's definitely not where we wanted to be but I'm happy to make it out of this race with some points." 15 DEAN WILSON 12TH 450SX DW15 Husqvarna's Dean Wilson leaves California tied for fifth in points despite having an awful night in San Diego. He fell early in the only prac- tice/qualifying session of the day, getting covered in mud, then had more trouble throughout the night on his way to 12th. "It was awful," Wilson said. "It was really tough, and it was just a tough day for me. In my heat race, my holeshot button stuck for like two laps, and then in the main event, I came around maybe eighth or seventh and then I got pelted, and I fell, and then the bike was super-heavy. And I stalled it like four or five times—my bike kept stalling for some reason, so it was just a struggle, and I ended up 12th, but it was just a tough day. That was my worst one of the year. Over- all, it's not too bad. I'm not pumped on my day at all today, but I'm healthy and I'm ready to roll for next weekend." 51 JUSTIN BARCIA DNF 450SX "It was a crazy day, lots of rain so the track was super wet," said Justin Barcia of his night. "I got a bad start in the heat race and got some water under my goggles, so I had to ditch them in the first turn and ended up stalling, as well. I came from about last to fourth, so, ultimately, I was su- per happy with that ride. In the main event, I had a much better start than I've had lately. I felt like I was riding well enough to contend for a podium, or battle for the win, but I had a technical issue [clutch], and it took us out of the race."
