6D HELMETS
INTRODUCES
ATR-2Y
HELMET
6
D Helmets recently introduced
their second-generation youth
helmet, the ATR-2Y to media at an
event at Perris Raceway in Perris,
California. In a trackside presenta-
tion, held appropriately on "mini
night," Bob Weber and Robert
Reisinger of 6D Helmets revealed
the ATR-2Y helmet, a youth version of the already
introduced ATR-2 helmet.
"It is basically an exact miniaturized replica of the
ATR-2 adult helmet that we introduced last Febru-
ary. The updated technology, the advanced ODS
(Omni-Directional Suspension) system, it's got a
larger air gap for more internal displacement of the
ODS system. It's got an EPS (Expanded Polysty-
rene) inner liner and an EPP (Expanded Polypropyl-
ene) multi-impact outside liner. It's rebuildable, so
that after a crash, if the EPS is compromised, as
long as the shell's not damaged, we can rebuild the
helmet by replacing the inner EPS liner assembly,
and that helmet is basically back to brand new."
Like the adult ATR-2 helmet,
the shell-within-a-shell design
features the "single-hit" EPS liner
on the inside that is designed to
protect you in one crash only,
while the outer shell can with-
stand multiple hits. That way, after junior has a solid
bonk, simply send in the helmet for a fresh inner
liner and off you go. While a 6D Helmet is a size-
able investment, it's at least a more cost-effective
one with its rebuildability. Another feature of the
ATR-2Y helmet is revised youth sizing.
"I don't think it's a big secret that some of the
larger kids out there did not fit in our original youth
helmet too well, and we really
worked hard to address that in
the new helmet," said Weber.
"We wanted to make sure that
as they roll into 12, 13, 14 years
old, depending obviously on
their size and weight, they may
still be in this helmet until they
progress into an extra small
adult size."
The new ATR-2Y helmet is
available in multiple colorways,
and will retail for $449. It is avail-
able now. CN
