LORENZO FRACTURES SCAPHOID
N
ew Repsol Honda rider
Jorge Lorenzo suffered a
fractured scaphoid during a
training accident on January 19
and underwent surgery today,
Monday, January 21.
Three-time MotoGP World
Champion is due to make his
first public appearance in Rep-
sol Honda colors at the team
launch in Madrid on January 23,
and now faces a race against
time to be fit for MotoGP pre-
season testing.
A titanium screw was inserted
via a minimally invasive tech-
nique. He will remain in hospital
for 24 hours for further observa-
tion. Four days' rest will give the
injury sufficient time to heal from
the operation and physiotherapy
can then begin.
Due to the nature of the
injury, Lorenzo and the Repsol
Honda team have elected for
Lorenzo to miss the Sepang
test in Malaysia, February 6-8 to
focus fully on his recovery. His
aim is to return fully fit for the
Qatar test, February 23 to 25.
He will head to Madrid for the
25th Anniversary Repsol Honda
Team launch on January 23
alongside Marc Márquez. CN
Jorge Lorenzo's
2019 is not off to
a good start.

Coffee was in Peru for the
2019 Dakar Rally and caught up
with American Ricky Brabec, who
suffered an agonizing mechanical
failure on Stage 8 while leading
the event for the factory Monster
Energy Honda team.
In this three-plus minute video,
Brabec chats about the feeling of
coming so close to his first Dakar
triumph, the politics of the rule-
book and about how his suspen-
sion was mysteriously played with
during the marathon stage. It's
interesting viewing. CN
