RACING LEGENDS ATTEND POLE
POSITION ROAD2RECOVERY BENEFIT
T
he inevitable traffic tangles
that invariably accompany
rush hour and storms in South-
ern California didn't dissuade
nearly two dozen racing legends
(both past and present) from tak-
ing part in a charity event ben-
efiting Road2Recovery at Pole
Position Raceway indoor karting
facility in Corona, California,
January 16.
Besides legends who are
somewhat local like Doug Du-
bach, Jeff Emig, Colton Haaker,
Grant Langston, Jeff Matiasev-
ich, Jeff Ward and other moto-
heroes, a few out-of-town guests
also enjoyed spinning laps, such
as MotoGP stars Jack Miller,
Fabio Quartararo and Marcel
Schrotter.
"The Road2Recovery [mis-
sion], I know all about it and I
think it's an amazing thing that
they've got going there," Miller
said. "It's awesome to see the
work that they're putting in, espe-
cially for the guys that have been
hurt in the sport, and I think it's a
great charity."
Ward has been a proponent
of Road2Recovery for years
and shared, "Any time they have
something going that they need
me [to lend my name and time
supporting], if I'm free, I'm there.
It's always a good deal."
Between the silent auction
and donations, the evening net-
ted about $7000 for the 501 (C)
(3) non-profit. Former motocross
star Ward Bassett drove in the
"A" main and pledged $200 for
every driver who beat him and
$100 for every one he beat. After
starting on pole, Bassett finished
eighth with car racer Alex Gurney
winning ahead of hillclimb champ
Kerry Peterson and Ward.
