SUPERCROSS ROUND 2 / JANUARY 12, 2019 STATE FARM STADIUM / GLENDALE, ARIZONA P58 season, I went to work with Nick Wey and the whole team and just really kind of took a step back and changed some things in my program. You know, I'm really tired of being the guy that just has 'potential.' You hate to just leave so much on the table, so I've sacrificed pretty much every- thing in my life to get to this point. It feels so good to get a win early in the season. We're right where we want to be. We couldn't be happier." But after a fifth place at the opener, the last person Cian- ciarulo wanted to see cross the line behind him was Colt Nichols (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha). The round-one winner had a rough start to the main event before gathering him- 250SX With all the excitement and an- ticipation of Anaheim 1 out of the way, Adam Cianciarulo (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki) came to Arizona refocused on the task at hand, and it showed. He qualified well, won his heat race going away, and then grabbed the main-event holeshot before speeding away to what looked like a routine race win. Cool, calm and collected. "It wasn't much of a difference [between round two and round one] other than I got through the first corner, unlike last week," Cianciarulo said. "Last week, we had a little mishap, and it just seemed to string into a couple mistakes, and that really bummed me out because in the off- MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS win outdoors. We had the red plate for a while; [I'm] trying to put them on the map and race against the fac- tory teams." The last few laps, with the win in reach, Baggett said, "… The last five laps were literally a blur. All I remember is the last lap, there was somebody rolling, not deciding which way he was going through the whoops, and I was like, I don't know if he's going to go left or right, so I went right down the middle. It was a terrible line. That's the only thing that sticks with me the last five laps." WHAT HAPPENED TO ANDERSON AT A1? After the Arizona race, Jason Anderson talked about the differ- ence from his 14th place last week at the series opener and his second place this week. "I've been riding well during the week but last week was just crazy," he admitted. "There was a lot of stuff going on, not only from obligations and stuff like that. I had a horrible heat race [last week] and then they wanted to do the ring presentation for the championship; it was just a lot and I was not really in the head-place to be racing, to be honest." ROUGH ONE FOR MCADOO Cameron McAdoo, who is filling in for Jeremy Martin on the Geico Honda Team, left Phoenix a little worse for wear after crashing in qualifying and in the 250SX main event. "Phoenix was a rough one for me," McAdoo said. "I had a pretty big crash in practice which sprained my thumb and wrist pretty bad. We just tried to manage the swelling as much as possible before the night show. Then in the main I didn't get the start I was looking for, but I fought up to eighth. I still felt like I was going forward until I clipped a triple in the rhythm before the whoops which tweaked my thumb and then I went flying into the berm and the Tuff Blocks. That hurt! I got up in like 15th and it was survival mode and trying to hold onto my bike the last five laps I ended up 11th but I'm glad the injuries weren't worse." Briefly... self and clicking off some great laps, eventually snagging second place from Shane McElrath (TLD/ Red Bull KTM) around the halfway point. He credits his ability to rebound after a rough start to the race on his working with a sports psy- chologist. "It's huge," Nichols said. "I'm working with a girl named Kate, and she's done wonders for me, man. It's a big deal to kind of work on that side of things. I mean, everybody has a weakness out here, so to try to improve on your weaknesses is huge, and that's all I'm trying to do, man. I'm just try- ing to make myself better in every facet possible." McElrath hung on for third for the second race in a row. Nich-
