LOOKING BACK
A cartoon by Jerry Barnett was featured on the cover of Cycle News
50 years ago… We showed you a picture of the new 1969 250cc
Suzuki Savage, saying it "…is possibly one of the most beautifully and
functionally designed enduro machines ever built."… The Dirt Diggers
North M.C. held a two-day professional motocross at Placerville,
California, called "Hangtown." Brad Lackey, riding a Montesa, was
one of the big winners… Bob Grossi was one of the upcoming stars at
Marysville MX 50 years ago this week.
Moto-X Fox rider Donnie Cantaloupi was pictured on the cover 40 years
ago at the CMC/Suzuki Golden State MX Series at Dunlap Cycle Park.
Cantaloupi won the 125cc class, Danny Chandler the 250cc class and
Rex Staten the 500cc class… We tested the Moto Guzzi V-50… We
reported that Jim Pomeroy had signed with Bultaco to compete in the
250cc GP MX and Trans-AMA MX Series... We also reported that Pat
Hennen was up and walking again after his crash at the Isle of Man TT
six months earlier.

he gets a little
smoother he'll
