"The greatest of all time is our own Dick Mann."
In The Paddock:
No GOAT Like An Old
GOAT
Hailwood, Rossi, Agostini,
Marquez, sure they're good.
But did they ever win on a pro
half-mile? In the desert? A mo-
tocross? The greatest of all time
is our own Dick Mann.

Neck Brace Study
I read with some amazement
some of the comments on the
neck brace "issue" that was
reported in your newspaper
as a rather significant study.
Sampling size, correlation coef-
ficients and hyperbole aside,
many of your respondents may
not remember the historic sig-
nificance of these devices.
In the early 80s when long-
travel bikes became available,
and many differing designs
were attempting to do the same
thing, the tracks became very
treacherous and the injuries
sustained by many competi-
tors were horrific. Even top-tier
riders like Danny Chandler and
David Bailey were not immune
from the ruthless physics these
bikes and tracks dished out.
The bikes and tracks today
are much more sophisticated,
as is the protective gear. I
waited for years for someone
to develop these braces and
despite what anyone debates
about the nuances of whether
they work or not (I've broken a
collarbone wearing a brace); I
will not ride without one. Ever.

Arizona Supercross
Congratulations to Blake
Baggett for getting his first-ever
supercross win. It's been long
overdue. Hopefully there will be
more to come.
Jim Leven
With this newfound confidence
Blake Baggett could go on a
run.

NBC coverage is poor. They
missed much of the front-
runners dicing, and instead
focused for long periods on
midpack battles. Perhaps we
don't need to be quite so criti-
cal of the announcers and just
be grateful that we can watch
it live.
As any MXer from the 80s-
90s would tell you, Cycle News
would arrive in the mail before
we even got the chance to
see it on the air. And now I can
watch it live on my phone from
anywhere. Progress.
Anderson was classy in his
apologies to Roczen after his
huge takeout. It was too ag-
gressive. But after finishing 14th
last weekend you can totally
understand his "enthusiasm" to
get the spot. (That number-one
plate has certain responsibili-
ties). But Baggett flat smoked
them all, he rode on a different
level last night.
Stay healthy kid.
Howard Halterman
If Ken Roczen was a smarter
racer, he would have an-
ticipated that move from Jason
Anderson and been ready for
it. Roczen left the door open
and had to step off. That's the
second time Roczen has been
played the fool with a similar
move. MXGP racers stand each
other up with the same pass
techniques every race.

TT Racing
This is great. Good motocross-
ers have good flat track and TT
skills. Wardy will be a shoe-in
for wins straight away, if not
dominant.
Glad he's doing the 450 [Sin-
gles] class, too. All disciplines
of riders can hop on a 450 and
have some competitive fun. I've
always wondered why more
retired pro motocrossers don't
jump into this form of racing. It's
just so much fun.
