MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS
change from years past, so I felt prepared. Everything
was great. And my mechanic gave me, 'five to go,' 'four
to go,' 'three to go,' and you're kind of talking to yourself
a little bit to try and get through it. I just tried to stay con-
sistent. I didn't even know how big of a lead I had or who
was in second at the time. I just tried to keep the focus
forward. I knew if I tried to relax too much I'd probably
make a big mistake and crash, so I just kind of tried to
keep it moving, and it ended up working out for me."
McElrath hung on for third all by himself and was
followed at a distance by Geico Honda's RJ Hampshire
and Cianciarulo, who had actually made an aggres-
sive pass on Hampshire for fourth place about halfway
through the race only for Hampshire to immediately
retaliate and put Cianciarulo on the ground. Cianciarulo
remounted in sixth then re-passed his rookie teammate
Garrett Marchbanks for fifth, where he stayed until the
finish. Marchbanks was sixth, and the last racer to finish
on the lead lap. CN
