D
ay one of the 2019 Dakar Rally is in the
books, and Monster Energy Honda
Team's Joan Barreda is the first to win a
stage. Barreda came out strong in dunes
to collect a 1:34 lead over Rockstar Energy
Husqvarna's Pablo Quintanilla (the all-Peru
event promises a lot of sand in the next two
weeks as riders take on 10 stages, mostly
through the Peruvian dunes), but it was
American rider Ricky Brabec who led at the
first time check of the rally. The Monster
Energy Honda rider led the way by a single
second at the first checkpoint, and held on
to finish third on the day—a strong start to his
fourth career Dakar Rally.

The sale of Utah Motorsports
Campus has been mired in con-
troversy for the past three years.
In October 2015, the Tooele
County accepted an offer of
$20 million from Mitime Invest-
ment Utah to acquire the facility.
The trouble for the sale started
when it emerged Tooele County
knocked back an offer of $22.1
million from Las Vegas-based de-
velopment company Center Point
Management, who subsequently
sued Tooele County and received
a $1.55 million payout in No-
vember, 2017, to stay out of sale
proceedings between the county
and Mitime Investment Utah.
"It's a blessing for the county,
the facility, and all stakeholders
to get UMC in the hands of the
right owners that will carry Larry
Miller's dream forward and invest
in the facility's future," Milne
