YOUNG WINS ROOF OF AFRICA
S
herco's Wade Young took top
honors at the 51st running
of the three-day (including the
opening prologue) Motul Roof
of Africa 2018 hard enduro, in Le-
sotho, Africa, December 6-8.
Beta Racing's Travis Teasdale
emerged from the prologue as
the early leader but was passed
by Young on the first full day of
competition.
Young went on to open a
gap of nearly 40 minutes over
Teasdale. The Sherco pilot used
that 40-minute cushion wisely
the final day, by taking extra
time through the unpredictable
water crossings and getting off
his motorcycle to wade through
them first, assessing their
depths. Water and rain were a
constant threat to the competi-
tors through out the race. This
method cost Young some time,
but he still had plenty left at the
end to take his fourth career
Roof of Africa victory over Teas-
dale.
Yamaha rider Kyle Flanagan
edged out fellow Yamaha rider
Lloyd Kirk for third place. CN
YOUNG SIGNS THREE-YEAR
DEAL WITH SHERCO
A
fter winning the 2018 running of the Motul Roof of Af-
rica, South Africa's Wade Young was rewarded with a
new three-year contract with his current team, Sherco.
Jordan Curvalle, Sherco Team Manager, said, "I'm
obviously very happy about Wade's contract extension.
The first time I saw him was in 2015 at the Bassella race
in Spain and he impressed me with his speed! Before
that I knew him only by name and by results in Xtreme.
The start of Xtreme racing in 2016 presented us with
huge challenge, we have been learning for the past three
seasons. The team has progressed well, and we are now
having some very good results! I am very happy that we
will continue our adventure together and the goal is to
win even more races!" CN
Extreme off-road racer will
stay a Sherco team rider
for the next three seasons.
