We had full coverage of the ISDE from Australia, where the Finnish team
took home the World Trophy. However, Aussie Shane Watts was the
overall individual winner on a 125cc KTM. Ty Davis was the top-finishing
American rider… Jeff Gibson won the AMA/PJ1 Arenacross round in
Worcester, Massachusetts… Alan Cathcart tested Troy Corser's world
championship-winning 996 Ducati superbike and Fabrizio Pirovano's
world supersport-winning Alstare Corona Suzuki GSX-R600.
Freddie Spencer announced that he was coming out of retirement
after signing a one-year contract with Marlboro Yamaha to race the 1989
500cc World Championship Road Race and was pictured on the cover,
along with Baja 1000 winner Danny LaPorte, who teamed with Larry
Roeseler and Paul Krause; it was Roeseler's fifth Baja 1000 victory… We
covered the Western States Memorial MX in Blythe, California where Mike
Kiedrowski and Shaun Kalos were the big winners.
