"If Indian won each and every time, how would
that affect the grandstand attendance and the
bottom line for AFT?"
AFT Rule Changes
Ask yourself these questions
honestly: If Indian won each
and every time, how would that
affect the grandstand atten-
dance and the bottom line for
AFT? How long would they be
able to stay in business?
A large variety of brands
creates enthusiasm for the
series, different winners create
an active fan base. Simply put,
it's good for business and for
everybody.
As for me, I ride a Harley-
Davidson and have for 40-50
years, but I love the Indians.
And I've enjoyed them kicking
butt. I'd love to own one.
But it's time to even it out a
little for the health of the racing
series.
Long live flat track!

What needs to happen is Harley
and the other manufacturers
need to build a better bike.
That's how progress is made.
Jon Angus
Hate to see this happen. Inter-
est and attendance is up in AFT.
A similar thing happened when
the Honda RS750 was running
strong. Rules were changed
and interest dropped off.
Kathy Matt
I'm always in favor of multi-
brand competition. For the last
two years, that hasn't really
been the case, so I'm willing to
see what happens before piling
on Harley and AFT.
Stephen Farenell
The assumption that these
changes benefit only Harley is
hollow. The coming KTM 790
and some Ducatis would ben-
efit more from bigger throttle
bodies. The secret to flat track
racing is a well-rounded power-
band. Present tires can only put
so much power on the ground.
If Indian was having a reduc-
tion in throttle body size, yes,
that would be unfair. Whining
that future racing production
engines will trample them to
extinction is just manipulation.
James Edward Zeiser
I think Indian complaining is
funny as hell. I mean what did
they expect to happen?
In no other motorsport series
will the competition committee
let one manufacturer dominate
the series the way that Indian
has these past two years. The
CEO of AFT said that if Indian
kept sweeping the podium it
would be a problem. Bottom
line it wasn't good for competi-
tion.

Let the other companies build
a better bike. If you can't run
with the big dogs, stay under
the porch. Don't penalize the
winner and reward the loser.
Hell, let's just give everyone a
participation trophy, no winners
or losers. This is not racing.
