We featured our 1999 250cc motocross shootout 20 years ago. Our bike of
choice was the Kawasaki KX250… We rode the all-new Yamaha YZF-R6
for the first time at Phillip Island… We covered the World Vet Championship
and Vintage Iron World Championship at Glen Helen Raceway, where some
of the most famous motocrossers ever—such as Roger DeCoster, Brad
Lackey, Gary and David Bailey, Danny LaPorte, John DeSoto, Marty
Moates, Rick Johnson, Broc Glover and Rick Burgett—where honored
at the Iron Masters of Motocross Banquet.
Our feature race coverage 30 years ago was the AMA/CCS EBC Brakes
Endurance Challenge from Daytona. The Hyper-Cycle Team took the
win and the title… Dan Smith won the final round of the AMA Hare &
Hound Championship in Wickenburg, Arizona, and also wrapped up
the championship… Another championship was decided 30 years ago,
when Randy Hawkins took second to Kurt Hough at the Cajun Classic
National Enduro in Louisiana… Yet more championships were decided;
Dave Schultz sewed up the NHRA
title at Pomona, and Ed Lojak
wrapped up the GNCC title in
Pennsylvania.
